Emergency Care Attendant Program

Course description: First responder course in emergency medical care. This 96-hour course emphasizes the requirements of national and state accrediting agencies.

Learning outcomes: Course will demonstrate a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the emergency care attendant (ECA) level; ability to competently perform all applicable skills; and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the emergency care attendant.

Phlebotomy National Certification Program

Course description: This course prepares the student for the practice of phlebotomy and provides understanding of the role of the phlebotomist in the health care system. Students gain and understand of medical terminology, safety and legal issues, various related physiological systems, laboratory tests and specimen handling. The students will become competent in performing venipuncture and dermal puncture and other methods of collecting clinical specimens.

Course objectives: Students will gain a broad knowledge and the skills needed to perform venipuncture and dermal puncture including basic characteristics, equipment, additives used, appropriate intervention, and other technical applications including specimen collection and handling while observing OSHA guidelines and standard precautions. The students will also use appropriate medical terminology and be able to discuss Medical Law and Ethics with particular reference to phlebotomy.
